HIC Responds to New Report Exposing Judge Hudson as Unabashed Partisan

Judge in Virginia health care lawsuit credits "active service to the Republican party" with landing him a federal judgeship

Washington, D.C. — The Health Information Campaign (HIC) released a statement responding to a new report release today by Media Matters' Political Correction. The report, "Perhaps It Was Ego": Judge Hudson's Quest For Glory, a exposes Virginia Judge Henry Hudson as an ambitious partisan. Monday, Judge Hudson issued his ruling that the individual responsibility provision of the new health care law was unconstitutional.

Statement from Health Information Campaign Spokeswoman, Erikka Knuti:

"We expect our courts to be fair arbiters of the law. Twelve judges dismissed challenges to the health care law and two ruled the law and the individual responsibility provision constitutional. Judge Hudson's controversial decision was outside of the legal mainstream. This report by Political Correction shows Hudson to be an ambitious partisan who loves the spotlight.

"The Affordable Care Act is not a game; it is a lifeline for millions of Americans who desperately need affordable, accessible health coverage. No judge has the right to use this law to further their personal political agenda, not when the health care of so many is at stake."

HIC is a non-partisan, non-profit organization whose mission is to educate the public about health care reform and serve as the voice of the Affordable Care Act supporting its implementation.
