Garth Graham on How the Affordable Care Act is Helping African Americans
October 14 2010
The White House recently released another helpeful health care PSA -- this time from Garth Graham, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health at the Department of Health and Human Services. Graham, a trained medical doctor, shares his experiences as a physician and explains how the Affordable Care Act is helping African Americans.
As Dr. Graham explains, the new law helps to bridge disparities in health care felt by African Americans by making access and early treatment much simpler and more affordable.
As a whole, minority communities have a much higher rate of chronic illness, and often fall prey to preventable diseases because of a lack of early detection. The Affordable Care Act will provide for preventative care to find and treat breast cancer, colon cancer, heart disease and other diseases that disproportionately impact African American communities.
